E-commerce site owners would do well to look at a variety of content formats when engaging in search engine optimisation(SEO), it has been advised.
According to Lisa Wehr of Practical eCommerce, the fact that a typical Google search now brings up listings for a range of types of content - including video, blogs, news articles and maps - means businesses should be pursuing a blended SEO strategy.
This will entail making use of a number of different media forms to ensure the website has maximum exposure in search results, she explained, giving the examples of setting up a company blog, incorporating videos and images into web pages and making the most of online news and press release sites.
"News sites are increasingly popular and are impacting blended search results," Ms Wehr remarked.
"Many news sites have become more social and are encouraging users to post what they deem to be 'newsworthy' content."
UK newspaper websites attracted 15.9 million domestic web users in March, up 43 per cent compared with the previous year, according to comScore.
