Domain names can be a boon to SEO strategies

Businesses could enhance their online marketing campaigns by choosing the right domain names for their websites, according to one expert.
Writing in a column for Marketing Week, Sedo business development director Nora Nanayakkara suggests that opting for domains that are more focused on generic keywords than brand names could be good for search engine optimisation (SEO) and pay-per-click purposes.
"Studies have shown that keyword domains related to the search term appear higher in natural search listings and receive a higher quality rank when running paid search campaigns," she explains.
She cites the cases of Calvin Klein's Underwear.com domain and Johnson & Johnson's Baby.com website as good examples of companies using generic domain names for online marketing purposes.
Those considering setting up a blog should seriously think about buying a domain name rather than relying on the address provided by free blogging sites, according to a recent Search Engine Guide article by Stoney deGeyter of Pole Position Marketing.
He advised bloggers to opt for domain names that use keywords where possible, as well as for those that are relatively short and memorable.
