Those writing web copy for the purpose of being noticed and ranked highly by search engines need to remember that they must write for two different kinds of visitor, according to one expert.
Writing for WebProNews, Matt Tuens of Beanstalk
Search Engine Optimization urged copywriters to remember that they are writing for both human readers and for search engine software, a practice that requires a skilful balance between art and science, he commented.
He noted that there are several website elements that are important to both real visitors and search engines, particularly page titles, as these offer vital clues to the content of the site in question.
Other important elements include heading tags, which are generally seen as containing key information by all visitors, he went on to note, adding that it is generally seen as good
search engine optimisation(SEO) practice to keep to one topic per page.
"In simultaneously targeting a subject, an audience and an algorithm, a great deal of creativity must take place to get effective
SEO results," Mr Tuens stated.
According to Google engineer Matt Cutts, it is vital that web
news articles or other online content offer value to readers and that if they focus on a niche, that particular area is studied carefully before writing.
