One of the most common mistakes made by those beginning to optimise their websites for search engines is that they do not target the most appropriate keywords, it has been suggested.

Kronik Media has asserted through its blog that many people make keyword decisions based on the volume of searches conducted for that phrase.

However, they should be selecting keywords which are related to the business and the content on the website, the search marketing agency added.

When inserting keywords, it is also vital to use original information, the post continued.

"It is important to have original content on the website as search engines are designed to pick up duplicated content and penalise the duplicating website," it concluded.

Recently, Eric Enge, blogging for SEOMoz, warned that as search engines try to only make one copy of all content available to searchers, businesses which are not posting original information can find they are excluded from the search results.

He explained that while this is not an actual penalty from search engines such as Google, it has the same impact on a website's success.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18605173-ADNFCR
