Businesses looking to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy through their website content may want to consider writing list-based articles.

According to Tad Chef of SEOptimise, lists tend to attract a high level of traffic, attention and links, making this type of content perfect for SEO.

He recommends including outbound links in these lists rather than "hoard[ing] PageRank and trap[ping] users" like some websites do.

Mr Chef adds it is well-known that Google favours websites that regularly post outbound links, commenting: "People who you are linking to will link back to you, spread the word on social media and support your blog or even business in the future."

Lists are part of a group of content types known as linkbait, which are interesting news articles, features and blog posts designed to attract attention and persuade users to send links to their friends.

Chris Lake of Econsultancy recently recommended building up a network of followers on blogs and social media sites before coming up with linkbait to target this audience.
