Protect SEO strategies, expert warns

Businesses should ensure they protect their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies, according to one expert.

In a post for Search Engine Watch, Gary-Adam Shannon claims that competitors can get sites penalised by Google simply by writing a negative online report.

"It seems that the easiest way to beat your competitors is to write them up on a website and wait for the Google slap," Mr Shannon comments.

Suggesting two methods with which brands can protect themselves, he recommends that simply setting up Google alerts for their company can prove to be a big help.

This way, he explains, firms can be instantly alerted to negative press and set about dealing with the problem.

Meanwhile, by signing up to a link monitoring service, brands can keep an eye on spikes in traffic.

In a recent post for Econsultancy, chief executive of TagMan Paul Cook claimed that organic SEO is drastically undervalued - and can in fact yield better results than alternative methods, such as pay per click.
