Companies which rely solely on link buying in order to boost their search engine rankings are doing something "fundamentally wrong", an expert has commented.
Mike Grehan, founder and chief executive officer for search engine optimisation (SEO) firm Searchvisible, made his comments via a blog on the ClickZ Network.
He said that many people struggle to think of reasons for other sites to link to theirs and called upon marketers to rethink their online strategy to ensure they gain "juicy editorially-chosen links".
"The notion that the small guy can't attract natural linkage data suggests only one thing: he needs to become more realistic and a better marketer," Mr Grehan argued.
Searchvisible reports that content is vital to a marketer seeking to boost their SEO.
It suggests that if a site's content fails to hold a browser's attention then no user will link to it and raise its value to search engines' algorithms.
