Businesses looking at improving their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategies might want to focus on content.

This is according to Rob Docherty, an American SEO expert based in Louisville, Kentucky, who told Inc.com that content is always king when it comes to online marketing.

He said that if analytics data suggests target customers are searching for a term that is not already extensively covered on the site, "it's worthwhile to churn out a couple more pages on that topic".

"It really comes down to thinking about content," he added.

Meanwhile, Chris Dawkins of Trace Media Marketing recommended that marketers build links from other sites by targeting companies that have pages relating to their own keywords.

It is possible to do so via social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, he commented.

The recently-launched Yahoo! Style Guide recommends writing web content that both people and search engines can easily decipher - bearing in mind that a website is now likely to get visitors from around the world.
