UK charities should consider using social media marketing and search engine optimisation (SEO) to reach new audiences, a discussion group has concluded.
A panel dialogue took place during a seminar hosted by
Enable Interactive and many marketers within the charitable sector stated that they were upping their social media spending,
mad.co.uk reports.
Dorothea Arndt, manager of new media for the British Red Cross, told the panel social media has developed into a "key tool" for reaching potential new supporters, the website continues.
Furthermore, small charities in particular have a "duty of care" to allocate budget to SEO, she stated.
"Yes, it takes time, we've spent more than 18 months working on it, but it has already enabled us to punch well above our weight," Ms Arndt added.
Henry Palmer, director of communications agency
Society Media, recently commented that the internet is a useful tool for charities as it allows them to enjoy results no matter how small their budget.
