Making a website more valuable and easy-to-use for consumers is one way to increase its search engine ranking, an expert has revealed.
Writing for Search Engine Watch, Mark Jackson commented that Google is primarily looking for a quality user experience.
He added that the way to achieve this was through an accessible site which enabled a user to find the information they were looking for quickly and easily.
In order to be relevant to the consumer, firms need their websites to contain "quality content and pages upon pages of supporting content", he advised.
Another way to make sites appealing for the consumer is to have internal links detailing things which might be of interest to people visiting certain pages, Mr Jackson commented.
In addition, search engine optimisation (SEO) can be achieved by making websites more accessible to different groups - for example Mac users or those users who are visually impaired.
According to SEOmoz, a survey of 37 experts found that the top three most useful factors in SEO are believed to be having the keyword in the title tag, the anchor text of the inbound link and the global link popularity of a site.
