(SEO) professionals should look at the structure of their websites to ensure they are properly organised for crawling by search engines.

This is according to web marketing expert and blogger Michael Gray, who said on the Search Engine Landblog that site architecture is a vital consideration in SEO strategies as a poor structure could prevent search engines from indexing content.

He advised making the website navigation crawlable by placing site-wide links across the top, side and footer areas of web pages and making use of internal anchor text.

"Internal anchor text is big part of the puzzle and removing it is like forgetting to put the sugar in your cookie recipe and expecting everything to come out of the oven tasting the same," Mr Gray commented.

Rebecca Lieb of Econsultancy says in her book, The Truth About SEO, that SEO expertise must be brought into a company as the website is being built rather than afterwards to ensure important optimisation elements are built into the site's structure, according to an excerpt published by bMighty.
