A list of the top ten news-related web searches in 2008 has been released by Yahoo!.

Coming as part of the internet services company's review of the year in search, the list placed queries for 'hurricanes', 'Caylee and Casey Anthony' and 'election 2008' in the top three.

They were followed by searches for 'Pakistan', 'pregnant man', 'China' and 'Iraq', while 'Shelley Malil', 'Patrick Swayze' and 'Afghanistan' rounded off the top ten.

Yahoo! noted that while the devastation caused by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike and continued fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan were big stories that saw much attention this year, the search list also revealed another trend.

"A few surprises to this list included the human interest stories that captivated the curiosity of the country, such as Caylee Anthony, a missing Florida toddler, the pregnant man who allegedly gave birth to a baby girl and Patrick Swayze's battle against cancer," it said in a statement.

Yahoo! has also released the top ten searches made on its search engine via mobile phones, with MySpace, Facebook and Craigslist taking the first three places.ADNFCR-1351-ID-18906864-ADNFCR
