Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog closes at end of May

The Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog will soon be a footnote in the search history of internet promotion.

Yesterday, the search engine's blogging team updated with a post revealing May 31st 2011 as the official closing date for the Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog.

After then, the five-year effort to chronicle the latest techniques in search engine promotion is due to be gone faster than you can say "clear cache".

The move is part of a shift in focus for Yahoo!, which calls its decision "a redirect, not a 404 error".

Readers are now being directed towards the search engine's Yahoo! Advertising Blog, which incorporates elements of search but is primarily about display and pay-per-click advertising.

The Yahoo! Search Marketing Blog aimed to keep its readers abreast of developments ranging from natural search to sponsored listings.

However, with Yahoo! Search already powered by Microsoft's Bing platform in jurisdictions such as the US and Canada, the company's relinquishment of control of its own results may have played a part in the latest decision.
